Attention HQP: Up to $233,000 Available in Project Funding for Masters and PhD Students!

Working on a research project related to disability prevention from motor vehicle accidents? You may be eligible for project funding to continue your research.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), in partnership with AUTO21 and the Canadian Institute for the Relief of Pain and Disability (CIRPD) is now accepting applications for the Winter 2010 Doctoral Research Award and Master's Award.

Eligible applicants must be conducting research related to the following themes:

- Lowering occupant injury and disability in motor vehicle collisions or automotive manufacturing
- Prevention of disability resulting from vehicular or automotive manufacturing injuries

The research focus must address one of the following areas related to the above themes:

- Advances in injury prevention
- Effective situational diagnosis and management
- Reliable and valid measurement tools to evaluate and improve safety design methodologies and future research
- Evaluation of design, evidence formed methodologies or interventions targeted at reducing impairment and disability
- Effective research dissemination and utilization practices

Project funding for both awards is broken down as follows:

DOCTORAL RESEARCH AWARD:
- $198,000 has been set aside to fund projects in the area of injury, disability and motor vehicles
- A single project may be awarded up to $22,000 per annum for up to three years

MASTER'S AWARD:
- $35,000 has been set aside for this initiative to fund projects in the area of injury, disability and motor vehicles
- A single project may be awarded up to $17,500 for up to one year.

Please note: Application deadline for the DOCTORAL RESEARCH AWARD is October 15, 2009. Those applying for the MASTER'S AWARD must submit their application by February 2, 2010.
